Merri-bek BUG have joined the Streets People Love campaign ahead of the 2024 Merri-bek council election. All candidates have been asked to commit to the Streets People Love pledge and complete this survey. Together with Walk on Merri-bek we have created scorecards for each candidate taking into account:

Jordan Armaou-Massoud is a Socialist Alliance candidate in Harmony Park Ward.
Socialist Alliance have okay policy on active transport and it does show awareness of local campaigns and issues. Incumbent Socialist Alliance councillors have been broadly supportive of measures that support safe active transport and quick to support issues raised by residents.

Angelica Panopoulous is an Australian Greens candidate in Harmony Park Ward.
The Greens have a sound active transport policy. Panopoulous has been consistent in supporting the implementation of measures from the Merri-bek transport strategy that support safe active transport. and responding to residents concerns when raised.

Helen Politis is a Labor Party candidate in Harmony Park Ward.
The Labor Party in Merri-bek have a new policy platform which seeks to introduce additional consultation for Streets for People projects, doesn’t support 30kph trials (although some Labor candidates do) and mentions protected bike lanes in the context of ‘off road networks’. Incumbent Labor party councillors have not been consistent in supporting implementation of the transport strategy nor policy. According to her Streets People Love survey results Politis is not in favour of Merri-bek Council resuming its 30kph trial.
